Institute of Swimming’s Educator Training Day a Resounding Success

Exploring the Depths of Aquatic Education

The Institute of Swimming recently hosted a successful Educator Training Day, immersing their tutors in the depths of swimming teacher training.
The event offered a unique opportunity for Educators to expand their knowledge and skills.

A Day of Discovery and Learning

The day started with a carousel-style session led by experienced Institute of Swimming Coaching Educators. Participants had the chance to:

  • Dive into Diving: Experience the thrill of jumping from a diving platform.
  • Shoot for the Goal: Explore the fundamentals of water polo, including throwing and passing techniques.
  • Routine Realness: Participate in an artistic swimming routine with colleagues.
  • Brave the Open Waters: Learn about the essential open-water swimming equipment.
  • Perfect the Stroke: Understand how core aquatic skills translate into swimming strokes and analyse the techniques of Para-swimmers.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to diversity, inclusion, and strategic planning. Key sessions included:

  • Increasing Diversity in Aquatics: A deep dive into the barriers faced by Black swimming communities and strategies to promote inclusivity.
  • What is a Reasonable Adjustment?: A workshop on understanding and implementing reasonable adjustments to support candidates on courses.
  • Swim England Strategy: A sneak peek into the new “One Swim England” strategy and a Q&A session with Swim England CEO Andy Salmon.

Throughout the day, Educators engaged in various tasks, including providing feedback on activities used in the Swim England Learn to Swim programme, exploring the impact of different font colours in Google Classroom, and gaining insights into the Institute of Swimming team structure and support resources for the IV process.

A Testament to Educator Commitment

“The purpose of the Institute of Swimming Educator Training Day is to bring our Educator workforce together, share knowledge, and address their needs,” said Matt Thompson, delivery manager at the Institute of Swimming “This year’s event was a resounding success, with 65 dedicated Educators coming together to learn, network, and prepare for 2025.”

The Institute of Swimming continues to empower its Educators to deliver exceptional training and inspire future generations of swimming teachers and coaches.
