World Anti-Doping Agency release 2025 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published its 2025 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods.

The list designates which substances and methods are prohibited in-competition, out-of-competition and by specific sport.

WADA has published three documents, the Full 2025 Prohibited List; the 2025 Summary of Major Modifications and Explanatory Notes; and the 2025 Monitoring Programme.

All of the changes come into force on Wednesday 1 January 2025 after the list was approved and published by WADA at the end of September.

Athletes and support personnel should make themselves aware of the changes, review any medications they use on the Global DRO, and apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) if required before the updated list comes into effect.

WADA Director General Olivier Niggli said: “We encourage athletes, their entourage and all stakeholders to acquaint themselves with the Summary of Major Modifications to avoid inadvertent use of substances and methods that are prohibited in sport for 2025.

“In particular, we kindly ask all organisations around the world to share the list and its related documents with athletes, their entourage, and other relevant stakeholders under their jurisdiction.”
