New Masters Swimming Leadership Group created by Swim England

Swim England has taken on board the views of its members and created a new Masters Swimming Leadership Group.

The group has been formed following feedback from the Listening Report and discussions between the current Masters Working Group, Swimming Leadership Group, Sport Operations Committee and the Swim England senior leadership team.

The previous Masters Working Group was a sub group of the Swimming Leadership Group but the new Masters Swimming Leadership Group will support the future direction and development of Masters swimming.

All members of the Masters Working Group will become part of the newly formed Masters Swimming Leadership Group.

Jeroen Peters, the chair of the Masters Working Group, welcomed the change.

He said: “It’s fantastic to see Swim England listen to the views of the Masters community and create the new Masters Swimming Leadership Group.

“Our initial focus as a group will be to support the development of Masters swimming and we’re keen to hear from all members.

Positive step

“We will listen to all opinions as we aim to look at ways of retaining age group swimmers in the sport as well as engaging new members about the long-term physical and mental health benefits of being active in the water.

“The Masters community is incredibly passionate and we’re excited at the prospect of helping it evolve and thrive.”

Ally Whike, Swim England sport development director, said: “The feedback from the Listening Report highlighted concerns from Masters members who felt undervalued and under supported as a group.

“We want everyone to feel valued and have a great experience within the sport and by taking this positive step to create the Masters Swimming Leadership Group, it shows how committed we are to seeing Masters swimming develop.

“It’s an opportunity to grow the Masters community further and ensure more adults are actively swimming, either competitively or for fitness, fun and friendship.

“We look forward to working closely with the new group and sharing ideas for the future direction of Masters swimming.”
