Swimming and water safety training for school staff
Develop the knowledge, skills and confidence of school staff to support with or teach an outstanding school swimming and water safety programme.
Our school swimming and water safety training programme is designed to equip school staff with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to support or teach an outstanding school swimming programme. With trusted school staff such as class teachers and familiar adults actively helping — pupils are more likely to thrive in their swimming lessons, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
The programme is made up of two courses, which use both theory and practical sessions to teach you the most effective ways of delivering school swimming for success.
- Support Teacher of School Swimming – once completed the holder will be able to actively assist and support a more qualified teacher in line with the swimming lesson providers risk assessment.
- Teacher of School Swimming – once completed the holder will be qualified to plan and evaluate session plans, whether working towards, meeting or exceeding the national curriculum. They will be able to teach independently or support a specialist swimming teacher in a school swimming programme, in line with the swimming lesson providers risk assessment.
These courses are open to anyone working in a school swimming environment:
- school teachers
- classroom assistants
- learning support staff
- nursery staff
- qualified swimming teachers
- parents, helpers or homeschoolers
- PGCE students
Course learners all receive a certificate on completion of the training course.
