Guildford City make history as they win National Arena Junior Swimming League

Guildford City secured a historic first after triumphing in the National Arena Junior League.

Their success at the Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre, in St Albans, ensured they become the first ever club to solely hold the national title in both the junior and senior leagues.

Twelve months ago, Guildford City were crowned joint champions with Maidenhead but this time around, they were alone at the top.

Guildford were 70 points clear at the end of the 33 event meet for nine to 12-year-olds.

The victory followed the Guildford’s senior success in the National Arena Swimming League Cup Final in Cardiff in March

Sam Tierney, Guildford’s delighted junior head coach, said: “This is a historic win and it’s a great commitment from all the swimmers, staff and parents to produce this performance.

“Thanks as always to the National Arena League for putting on such and exciting and professionally run event at this point in the new season.”

The national final was the culmination of the league, which saw three regional rounds across the country before the summer break.

The top 10 teams were invited to St Albans for the chance to be crowned national champions.
