GoCardless Swim England National Winter Championships 2024 day four medallists
December 8, 2024A session full of lifetime bests and a new European record closed out the GoCardless Swim England National Winter Championships 2024.
Loughborough University’s Charlie Hutchison completed a hat-trick of gold medals at these championships as he recorded a time that was the seventh fastest in British history in the Open/Male 400m Individual Medley (IM).
He added the 400m IM national title to his 200m IM and 400m Freestyle victories to crown a successful four days at Ponds Forge.
Hutchison beat his previous lifetime best by more than two seconds as he produced a stunning time of 4:03.33.
A fantastic day four double also saw Freya Colbert take home three gold medals – and she did so in style, with two new lifetime bests.
After gold in the Female 200m Individual Medley on day one, the Loughborough Performance Centre swimmer topped the podium in both the 200m Backstroke and 200m Freestyle on the final day of action.
Colbert knocked 0.16 off her Backstroke best and more than a second off her Freestyle time.
Reed’s School’s Max Morgan went under 27 seconds for the first time in his career as he clinched both junior and senior gold to add to his medal collection.
The 16-year-old stormed to the wall in a time of 26.83 to hold off Commonwealth Games medallist, Gregory Butler.
That performance also made it three junior golds and six medals overall for Morgan.
Elsewhere in the junior finals, Mount Kelly’s Ella Justice made it a hat-trick of junior Backstroke medals with bronze in the Female 200m Backstroke.
Her previous silver and bronze medals came as part of podium dominance for her club in the junior 50m and 100m Backstroke as she was joined by Blythe Kinsman and Flawia Kamzol on both occasions.
However, of the successful trio, Justice was the only one to compete for a medal place across 200 metres as she completed her medal hat-trick.
Kamzol was competing in the final race of the competition, the Female 100m Butterfly, in which she came second to Derby Excel’s Georgina Pryor.
Pryor earned the win by adding her name to the list of those setting new lifetime best times with a 57.33 in her final.
The S14 European record for the Female Multi-Classification 100m Butterfly was broken not once, but twice in the final day in Sheffield.
After setting a new European record on day three, Olivia Newman-Baronius did so again in the heats of the Butterfly event.
However, Poppy Maskill lowered the record further in the final, with Newman-Baronius having withdrawn from the race.
Maskill clocked a time of 1:03.84 and 1,017 points on her way to another gold.
