GoCardless Swim England National Winter Championships 2024 day three medallists
December 7, 2024Amalie Smith rounded out day three of the GoCardless Swim England National Winter Championships with a new junior British record on her way to a fourth gold medal.
After a junior and senior gold medal double in the Female 400m Individual Medley event on day two, the 15-year-old repeated a similar feat on day three.
This time around it was the 100m Individual Medley which saw the RTW Monson swimmer top both podiums.
Smith lowered the previous best, which stood at 1:01.31, by 0.30 to earn her fifth medal of the competition – after also opening her account with a junior silver medal in the 200m Individual Medley on day one.
Finishing in the silver medal position for both the junior and senior events was Basildon Phoenix swimmer, Skye Carter.
Carter is collating an impressive medal collection of her own at these championships, with her total currently stood at seven with just one day remaining.
The 17-year-old recorded a time of 1:01.84 to seal silver, with Honey Osrin and Hannah Capron taking senior and junior bronze respectively.
Earlier in the session, the two S14 swimmers, William Ellard and Olivia Newman-Baronius, set world’s best times and new European records in the Multi-Classification 100m Freestyle events.
Ellard moved into a comfortable lead in his final and went on to set a time of 50.37 to rack up 969 points.
Newman-Baronius set a new lifetime best in her heat swim before her record-breaking final swim.
The Maxwell swimmer’s time was 57.62 which accumulated a huge total of 1,012 points. The only other swimmer to break the 1,000 point barrier was Poppy Maskill who claimed silver with 1,002 points.
